Getting paid up to $24 an hour to browse the internet sounds like a great gig. But is this company legit? In this review, we find out!

UserTesting Requirements
User Testing is looking for a wide variety of testers to help match their customers with people in all different demographics. This means what they require to get started is pretty minimal. Here is what they are looking for:
- You are at least 18 years of age.
- Testers need a PC or Mac computer.
- You have an Apple or Android phone or tablet if you want to complete mobile tests.
- Testers need a microphone. (You can use the small mic that comes attached to the earbuds with your phone, or buy a cheap one like this.)
- Ability to download their testing software.
- Ability to speak your thoughts aloud in English, and answer 4 short written questions after each survey.
UserTesting Application Process
The application for UserTesting is quick and easy! Enter your email on their application page here, then complete a short sample test. This test will be shorter than a standard test, only 5-10 minutes, but remember to follow instructions and be clear and detailed with your feedback. UserTesting’s customers aren’t paying for someone who will just scroll and say, “This is great!” They want real feedback.
After completing your sample test, you will fill out some very basic demographic information. This includes your country of residence, age, and gender.
Your sample test and application usually takes 24 to 48 hours to review. Once you are approved, you can start completing tests for your demographic immediately!
How Much Does UserTesting Pay?
Directly on UserTesting’s website, it says, “While UserTesting is a great way to earn a few extra dollars on the side, it won’t make you rich.” I love their clarity and honesty here because what they are saying is entirely accurate.
UserTesting pays $10 per review. For each review, you will answer 2-4 multiple choice questions to ensure you are in the right demographic, complete a 15-20 minute review, then answer 4 short written questions. All in, expect to spend 25 minutes on each report.
If you could consistently do UserTesting reviews, this would break down to about $24 an hour. Which is great pay!
However, you can’t always book these tests consistently. Instead, you will get notified when a test becomes available for your demographic. You’ll have to jump on it pretty quickly to make sure they haven’t reached their quota. UserTesting aims to get videos back to customers within an hour, with completion within 24 hours, so you have to move fast.
On average, people who are at home, able to be flexible with when they complete tests and have good ratings as a reviewer can do 2 to 3 a day. So, it provides a small side income, but UserTesting isn’t going to become a business or replace a full-time job.
When Does UserTesting Pay?
UserTesting pays via PayPal, 7 days after a test is completed. The 7 day waiting period allows UserTesting to maintain quality control.
In less than 1% of tests, a customer is so dissatisfied with the quality of a review video that they ask for a refund. In these cases, the reviewer does not get paid. This is very rare, but to ensure it doesn’t happen to you, make sure you record where you have a stable internet connection, follow directions and give clear feedback.
UserTesting Training
Other than the short test video in your application, there isn’t a training program for how to do reviews on UserTesting. Customers pay UserTesting for the raw, real-time feedback from reviewers.
Many UserTesting reviewers note that this leaves you a bit lost in your first few reviews. You’ll be working on following the on-screen directions, giving enough verbal feedback without making your videos so long you go beyond the standard 15-20 minutes and getting used to having your screen and voice recorded. However, most say that after their first two or three tests it was smooth sailing.
UserTesting Schedule
You aren’t guaranteed a certain number of tests or timing of tests with UserTesting. Some days you could receive notifications for multiple reviews that need to be completed for your demographic, and sometimes you will hear nothing.
Completing tests as soon as possible after getting a notification is also crucial, as otherwise, the assignment may fill its quota before you get there. Do not expect to create a consistent schedule with UserTesting.
UserTesting Feedback
People who work with UserTesting typically love their service. They praise the pay for the simple task of reviewing websites, apps, and products. And testers love that website tests are always unique and interesting. However, there are some complaints from people who signed up expecting a more consistent income from the site.
As has been mentioned already, UserTesting is meant to help you earn some pocket money, not a full-time income. You may not get assigned any tests for a day or two. You may get screened out of some tests in the multiple choice screening questions. And there may be times the quota for reviewers is full before you can get signed in.
However, you won’t waste time you might lose with other survey and review sites where you complete 15 minutes of questions before finding out you are ineligible. Screening is fast and easy. And when you are approved for a test, the pay is much better than other survey sites.
If you go in with eyes wide open and expect to make $10 here and there as a reviews come available, UserTesting can be an incredible source of pocket money.

Testing, and is there a difference in earnings depending on each region. With many online programs the regions outside the US and Europe tend to be not so good? Would love a response.
UserTesting is going to be just like the sites you mention. Companies are looking for specific demographics when it comes to feedback so you will need to meet qualifications before you can complete a test and get paid.
I can’t comment on how many test you’d receive if you’re outside the US, but it will 100% be limited and less than people in the US.
