As most of you know, I’ve created my own home business by blogging, but I know that’s not for everyone. Although I highly recommend checking out My #1 Recommendation before you read this list.
If blogging isn’t for you, I understand, so I’ve put together a list of other ways you can start a home business and gradually increase your income until you can do it full-time (if that’s your goal.) As I brought up in the previous statement, these won’t be opportunities you can start today and be making a full-time income tomorrow. These require real work and will most likely take awhile to build up an income.
If you have any questions about how to get started in one of these fields, please leave comments below. I’ve left a few recommendations if you’d like to check those out.
Let’s get started, here’re several home business ideas that you might be interested in.
Legitimate Home Business Ideas
Blogging
I know, but I had to start off this list with My #1 Recommendation for making a substantial online income. Again this doesn’t happen overnight but has tremendous income potential. If you have a passion, you could probably be writing about it and making money from sharing information about the topic. The best part is anyone can do it.
With all of the online tools and resources available, you can learn and start a blog for under $15 pretty easily.
If you have any interest in making money with a blog check out the training I used at Wealthy Affiliate.
Freelance Writing
If you like to write, but don’t want the hassle of running your own blog, freelance writing might be a good option. There’re several sites that you can join to pick up freelance writing jobs, but those usually pay pennies per article. If you want to work at home full-time as a freelance writer, you’ll need high-quality clients that are long term.
Check out the course 30 Days or Less To Freelance Writing Success to learn more about picking up high paying freelance writing jobs.
Tutoring
If you’re already a teacher or at least have some tutoring experience, you could be making a decent income online tutoring. Several companies hire work at home tutors, but the key to making a significant income is having long term students. Here’s a list of several tutoring sites to check out.
Social Media Management
If you have a knack for getting likes and shares on your social media posts, managing companies social media accounts might be for you. Some companies hire that position internally, but some companies look for social media managers to represent their accounts.
I highly recommend checking out the Social Media Manager School to learn how to land clients.
Virtual Assistant
If you have clerical work experience becoming a Virtual Assistant could be a viable home business option. Several companies hire VAs to represent them, but if you want to make a significant income, you’ll need to find clients yourself.
I recommend checking out the 30 days or less to VA success course to learn more.
Transcription
If you type fast and have a good ear, you can make money transcribing audio files. As most of the options on this list, several sites hire transcribers and pay pennies per file. If you want to make a good income, you need to go out and find long term clients on your own.
I highly recommend checking out the course at TranscribeAnywhere. They also offer a course in legal transcription, which usually pays more.
Translation
If you’re bilingual, you could get a job as an online translator. There’re several sites you can join to pick up translation jobs, but to make more money, you’ll want to get long term freelance clients.
There’s a very popular guide on Amazon that I recommend anyone interested checking out; it’s pretty cheap, so it’s a good investment.
Editing
Do you have a knack for editing and proofreading? A lot of bloggers and companies like to use editors before publishing content on their sites. If you can pick up a few long-term clients, you can make a good income.
Check out the course at ProofreadAnywhere to learn how to land your first client!
Selling on eBay
I used to run an eBay store, but once my blogging income increased, I fell in love with the passive income. I know a few people that make a full-time income selling on eBay. Whether it be by finding items for cheap and selling them for profit; or creating their own products and selling them.
Here’s a best-selling book on Amazon that takes you through all the steps of setting up your own eBay business.
Selling On Amazon
Another option is to sell on Amazon. I also know someone that makes a full-time income selling their own products they get made overseas on Amazon. You can handle the shipping or use Fulfillment by Amazon to get your products shipped to customers.
There’re several courses out there that cost big bucks, but I don’t have experience with those. So I’ll recommend a free e-book (for Kindle users) on Amazon.
Photography
If you have a knack for taking high-quality photos, you can make a decent income selling your photos online. There’re sites you can list your pictures for sale, but to make a significant income you’ll need to be taking photos for clients.
I highly recommend the courses about photography at the Digital Photography School or this popular book on how to sell your photos online.
Graphic Design
If graphic design is your thing, you could work at home doing freelance graphic design work. There’re several freelance sites you can use, but it’s not an easy field to break into.
Here’s an e-book written by a freelance graphic designer on how to set up your business and land your first job.
YouTube
Similar to blogging, if you have a passion, you could create video content sharing what you know and make a decent income with ad revenue, affiliate marketing, and sponsorships.
Again, income will start very small until you build a following, but it has a tremendous income potential.
My favorite course about starting a YouTube channel is VideoTrafficAcademy.
*I took this course and have several video reviews ranked on the first page of YouTube and Google search results. You can see some of my results here.
Direct Sales
I’m not a huge fan of direct sales, I’ve been involved in a few companies in the past, but it can be a viable home business. I don’t have any information about Direct Sales on my site at this time, so I highly recommend the direct sales post by Anna at RealWaysToEarnMoneyOnline. She’ll give you plenty of direct sales business ideas.
