Nice Talk Tutor App Review: Scam or $10 an Hour?

The Nice Talk Tutor App is an awesome way for native English Speaking Tutors to chat with English Students via their smartphones. As a Tutor for NiceTalk, you’ll get paid for every minute your talking, and get paid a rate of $10 an hour!

I decide to write a quick Nice Talk Tutor App Review before I recommend this to my readers, just to make sure it’s not a scam!

Tutoring English is extremely popular right now, but you do have to adjust your schedule to meet the most popular times to teach. If the tutoring schedule isn’t for you, make sure to check out My #1 Recommendation, it’s how I made over $13,000 online last month!

In this Nice Talk Tutor Review I’ll cover application/requirements, how the app works, how you’re paid, some complaints, and if this app is a scam or a legitimate way to make money!

VIPKid, another ESL company is actively searching for new tutors. They pay up to $22 an hour! Learn more by reading my full VIPKid Review!

Nice Talk Tutor App Review

NiceTalk Tutor App Review: Is it a Scam? Site: Nice Talk Tutor App

Score: 85 out of 100

Verdict: Legitimate

In this NiceTalk Tutor App Review, I gave them a good score and marked it legitimate. I like that they pay $10 an hour, but you’re paid by the minute, so if you only talk for 30 minutes, you’ll still earn $5. I also like that the schedule is flexible and you can log in at any time.

There’re some complaints in the app store that I cover, but it’s nothing too serious. If you get accepted, you should have no problems making money and getting paid.

Overall, a good way to make some extra cash in your spare time chatting with English Students!

How Does The Nice Talk App Work?

Requirements and Applying

Anyone who has a smartphone and speaks English can sign up as a Nice Talk Tutor. Teaching experience is not a requirement, but if you do you’ll most likely get more work. To begin just download the app on your phone or their website.

You’ll begin by filling out your profile which includes email, name, and a bit about yourself. Before you’re accepted, you’ll have to record a short video introduction.

They say that this is just to make sure your English is good. Any native speaker should be able to pass the test with ease.

Once you’re done with your introduction, they’ll review and let you know that your tutor account has been approved.

Start Chatting

Once you’re approved, you can begin to log on at any time and accept chatting calls. Once you have had a few sessions, students can ask to talk to you directly.

Each call should start with you introducing yourself, but after that, it’s pretty much free and open.

Calls can last as short or long as you and your student would like. You’re paid by the minute, so a few minute call is completely fine!

Get Paid

Once you’re done with a call you’ll be paid $10 an hour, but NiceTalk pays by the minute, so if you have a 30-minute call you’ll earn $5 immediately. Once you have a few sessions, you can cash out via PayPal.

How Does The Nice Talk App Pay?

The Nice Talk App pays each week via PayPal. You’ll need to have at least $20 in your account to meet the minimum cash out amount. If you have less than $20, your earnings will roll over to the next week until you do.

Payments are processed on Monday, but there’s a 3-4 day waiting period, so by Thursday or Friday, your earnings should be in your PayPal account.

How To Earn More: Referral Program

As a NiceTalk Tutor, you have the ability to take advantage of the Nice Talk Referral Program. You can invite your friends to become teachers on social media, email, or your website through your referral link.

You’ll earn $20 for every teacher you refer, once they chat for a total of 100 minutes.

*It does say valid through 2/29/16 I have no idea if the referral program will continue after this date or if the terms will change!

Nice Talk Tutor App Complaints

Problems Signing Up

In the app store, there’re many complaints from people who originally signed up on their smartphone. I guess the app doesn’t let you select all the options you need to sign up, specifically the language selection is the biggest issue.

It does look like you can sign up on their website, so you’d probably be able to get around this problem, but it’s pretty crappy that there’re problems with the app from the beginning.

Native Speakers Only?

On the NiceTalk website, they say the only requirement is English speaking, meaning as long as you’re fluent in English you should be able to join. But after looking through some reviews, it might mean native English speakers.

From the different reviews, many people know fluent English as a 2nd language that are not accepted. I have not idea if these people have bad accents or if there English is poor, but just a heads up if you’re not native English speaker, you may not be accepted.

Is Nice Talk Tutoring A Scam?

Thank you for reading my NiceTalk Tutor Review, this is not a scam; it’s a legitimate way to make some extra cash in your spare time chatting with English students.

I do have a few complaints about the app, and it seems that some people do as well, but as long as you can get accepted you should have no problems making some money.

If you’re looking to make a decent income, the key is having some students that request you directly. That way you don’t have to waste time finding new students, you have the ability to make good money from the same students over and over.

If you’d like to learn more or to join, visit NiceTalk.com or just download the app on your mobile devices app store. Keep in mind that some members have had issues joining on their smartphone!

If Nice Talk doesn’t sound like it will work for you, no worries, here’s a long list of other ways to make an extra income online!

  1. Hi Brok

Do you have any tips on improving my chances of getting accepted and can you lie about some things like basic information or even about certificate?

    Thanks in advance !

    • Aleksa,

I would never lie. Even though this is just an app and a side income lying is just going to hurt your chances. The key is to have an engaging profile and welcome video.

You don’t have to have any certificates, just need to impress students.

      Hope this helps,

  2. Hi everyone, I have a problem with downloading the app, when I go to google play store it says that this version of app is not compatible with my phone and I have android… What does that actually mean? Any help is welcome ?

    • Sanya,

How old is your phone? A lot of apps update to where they don’t work on older phones or outdated updates of your operating system.

Make sure to update your phone and see if that solves the problem, if not your phone is most likely too old and there’s really no way around that.

    • Hey Steven,

So things have changed a bit since I wrote this review. I went ahead and changed the links in the post, but visit this website.

On that website you can apply to be a tutor, then you’d have access to the mobile version on your phone.

      Hope this helps,

      Brok

  4. Hi Brok I checked out the website for Nice Talk and they are stating one of their requirements is to have your certificate for TEFL/TESOL, so maybe i should not even apply, do you know of any tutoring sites where you just need a college degree? Thanks

    • Hey Doreen,

It says that a teaching certificate is preferred, but when writing this review I was able to get approved without having one. There’s no guarantee you’ll get approved as well, but you can get accepted without having a certificate!

  5. Hi everyone,
If somebody’s still thinking whether to try work for it, here’s the only experience i had working for them:
After i earned certain amount (on the app system) , i’ve claimed the money to Paypal account (the only way to receive money from the app, no other ways). I haven’t finished the procedure of claiming completely, due to the need of changing Paypal account to another one. Then the money has been returned to the sender (NiceTalk) as they’d notified me in advance. The customer service representative said ‘there’s no problem if i want to receive the money on another account – then once i changed it, let the customer service know. So i did, i’ve changed my paypal and then tried to open NiceTalk app, and that never happened anymore. Now, when i try to log in to my account again, the app says: “Your account has been suspended”. When contacting customer service regarding this issue, the completely another representative (Jelly) replied, saying that they’ve paid to me, and now, to make my existing account accessible for me again, i have to create completely new one. No one even notified me that if that soon my account’s gonna be somehow “suspended”. Recently they’ve sent me payment to claim again, which doesn’t work at all. I can’t claim my money for a month already. Dear NiceTalk, you were certainly going to have a great future with this app, but don’t only think about the customers as learners of this app (those who pay for tuition), i suggest to think about the customers as teacher too (those, who use it as teachers). Otherwise, my complaint won’t be the last complaint at all.
