Yahoo Play App Review: Scam or Legitimate Way To Get Paid To Play Trivia?

yahoo play app review scam or legitimateThe Yahoo Play App is no longer available, please check out the Apps That Pay Me Each Month

The Yahoo Play App is a new app that gives you points for watching videos and playing trivia. As you earn points, you can exchange them for discount codes and gift cards.

I decided to write a review of the app to see if it’s a legitimate way to earn money or is just another scam.

One important thing to note, is your points expire each week on Sunday at 8:59 Eastern time. Which means you need to earn enough points to cash out a gift or your points expire!

Please understand that Yahoo Play and other extra income apps will never earn you much money! If you’re serious about making a large income online, check out My #1 Recommendation, it’s how I made over $13,000 online!

In this Yahoo Play App Review, I’ll cover how to earn, rewards available, my complaints, and if it’s a legitimate way to earn or a scam!

App: Yahoo Play

Type: Videos/Trivia

Verdict: Legitimate, Not Highly Recommended

In this Yahoo Play App Review, I marked them legitimate, but it’s not an app that I highly recommend. This is more of a fun way to kill some time and earn points in the process. With that being said there’s one thing that I dislike about this app, and it’s your points expire each Sunday.

If you plan on using this app a lot throughout the week, this can be a fun way to earn $5, but if you don’t have the time to reach the cashout amount in one week, then you lose your points and have to start over from scratch.

If you enjoy watching videos and trivia, this app might be for you, but it’s not an app I’ll be using or anything that I highly recommend.

How To Earn With Yahoo Play

The way you earn with the Yahoo Play App is by watching videos. In these videos, there will be a few trivia questions that you can answer having to do with the contents of the video. Here’s a screenshot of the homepage of some different videos you can watch to earn:

During the videos you’ll earn:

  • 15 points for every correct quiz answer. No points if you answer incorrectly
  • 5 points per poll
  • 2 points for watching the full video

Most of the videos are about pop culture, have 2-4 trivia questions you can answer, and are 1-2 minutes long. At least when you first join, there’re so many videos to watch I don’t think you’ll run out. Yahoo has a limit of 5,000 points per day.

Here’s an example of a video and trivia question you might see:yahoo play trivia app

In the example above the video was about a minute long and had two trivia questions, so the total you could earn for this video is 32 points (15 points per correct answer and 2 points for watching the full video.)

To put that in perspective you need to earn 1,500 points to cash out a $5 gift card.

Yahoo Play App Rewards

Once you earn points, you can exchange them for coupon codes and gift cards. At the time of this review, the two cheapest rewards are a $5 Groupon Coupon Code (150 points) and a $10 Verizon coupon code (300 points.) Since they are coupons there’re restrictions, for Groupon, it’s $5 off any order over $20, and for Verizon, it’s $10 off any accessory over $15.

The other rewards are gift cards starting at $5 (1,500 points.) The $5 gift cards include Walmart, Target, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Chipotle, and Apple Store.

They also have some gift cards starting at $10 (3,000 points.) The $10 gift cards include Amazon, Sephora, Whole Foods, and Nike.

Limit of two rewards per week and rewards can sell out.

Yahoo Play App Complaints

Points Expire/Sold Out Rewards

I only have a few complaints with this app. The main complaint is that your points expire each week. So if you have a ton of time on Monday and earn a lot of points then are busy the rest of the week, all of those points expire unless you cash them out.

Even worse is joining the app on a Sunday and not being able to earn enough points to cash out and then at 8:59 Eastern time you lose all the points you earned throughout the day.

I really wish that the points didn’t expire, but earning 15 points for a correct quiz answer is pretty high in my opinion.

With that being said, it seems that some of the popular $5 gift cards are sold out by mid-week, so it could be frustrating if you finally reach the cash-out amount and then they don’t even have the gift card you really wanted. If points didn’t expire you could just wait until it’s available again, but since they expire you’ll have to choose a different gift card or you’ll lose your points!

Is the Yahoo Play App a Scam?

They Yahoo Play App is not a scam, but it’s not an app that I will be using to make money. To be fair it’s a fun way to spend some downtime, but if you don’t have enough time in a week to reach the cashout amount you’re pretty much screwed because your points expire Sunday night.

If points didn’t expire I would probably have a different opinion about this app, but if you’re busy or forget to use the app you’ll lose your points, and I’m not cool with that.

Yahoo Play App is by no means a scam, but it’s going to be a tiny income and there’re much better ways to earn an extra income online.

  1. Some of the other videos offer more questions, around 5 at 15 points each which is 75 points per video if they are all gotten correct. I had downloaded the app but didn’t use it until one of the people who worked on it for Yahoo posted on Reddit in a sub I frequent asking people to try it and for advice. I finally did and got my roommate to sign up for it as well (this was back in mid April when we both joined). We both average at least $10 a week in giftcards so it’s been going well for us so far (~$90 each so far).
