Transcribe At 1-888-Type-It-Up Transcription Review

Learn How You Could Make Up To $180 Per Audio Hour Transcribed at 1-888-Type It Up. They accept beginners and pay twice a month via PayPal!1-888 Type It Up is an online transcription company that hires work at home transcribers. Out of all the sites that accept beginners, this site has the best hourly rate.

They do have a long application, and you’ll need to pass a transcription test, but if you can, you’ll land yourself a great transcription job.

Update 2020: The company now charges a $59 non-fundable Application Fee. Take that into consideration before applying and check the comments below the post for more information!

Transcribing from home is a legitimate way to make good money, but it’s not the easiest skill to pick up. If transcription doesn’t sound like your thing, check out My #1 Recommendation to learn how I made over $13,000 online last month!

In this 1-888 Type It Up review I’ll cover the requirements, application process, how much they pay, and the feedback from the past and current transcribers!

1-888 Type It Up Requirements

First off, they do accept beginners but prefer experience. Either way, you’ll need to pass a test. Here’re the requirements to transcribe at 1888 type it up:

The only requirements are based on equipment. Of course, you’ll also need an internet connection and computer. If you have the equipment, you can apply.

1-888 Type It Up Application

1-888 Type It Up has a full application on their website. It’s a pretty long form that covers just about everything from transcription experience, equipment available, typical schedule, desired pay, and typing speed.

Once you complete the application form, you can submit it. They say you should receive an email immediately with information about the test.

The next step is to take the transcription test. They say that it’s short but follow the instructions very carefully. They use a “production-style table template” that may be different than what you’re used to.

Once you submit the test they’ll let you know if you passed or failed. If you fail you do not get another chance to re-take the test, so make sure to follow instructions and double check your work.

If you pass the test and they think it’s a good fit you could get hired by the company.

Update 2018: Commenters have indicated there is a $15 application fee to apply. Pretty crappy if you ask me, so take that into consideration for applying.

Update 2019: Commenters are now saying that the fee is now $35!

1-888 Type It Up Pay

This is by far the best-paying transcription site that I’ve reviewed. They shoot for paying their transcribers $1-$2 per audio minute transcribed.

The work is done by contract, so pay does fluctuate per audio file. You’ll get paid based on the amount 1-888 Type It Up is getting paid for the work.

Most transcribers report making $60-$120 per audio hour transcribed and sometimes even more.

On their site they give the number $60-$180 per audio hour transcribed based on different factors such as sound quality and turn around time.

When Does 1-888 Type It Up Pay?

1-888 Type It Up pays via PayPal on the 15th and last day of the month. You have to invoice them via PayPal by the 5th and 18th to get paid.

Taxes are not withheld; it’s your job to report income over $600 come tax time.

1-888 Type It Up Schedule

From what I can see, they offer a flexible schedule, but do have a requirement of 1 hour of audio transcribed per week. Based on your skill I’d say you’d need to work 2-4 hours a week to meet that minimum requirement.

It seems that you can work on your own time, just need to meet the minimum requirement and meet any deadlines.

1-888 Type It Up Feedback

There’s not much information on 1-888 Type It Up out there, they used to be called Verbal Fusion and had pretty good reviews at that time.

One thing to keep in mind is they use a different format for their transcriptions; there will be a learning curve if you’ve never used it before. I’ve seen a few people mention it can be frustrating at first, but eventually it becomes second nature.

With the rate, they are paying I’d have to say that it’s a good company to work for. On their website, they talk about how other sites are ripping transcribers off by paying them low rates, so I have to think that they have a good outlook and value their transcribers.

How To Apply

1-888 Type It Up seems to be a good transcription site to work for, as long as you can pass their test. Out of all the transcription sites I’ve seen, that allow beginners to apply, this site pays far above the rest.

If you’d like to learn more or to apply, visit 1-888TypeItUp.com. They have a lot of information listed on their site that can give you a better idea of the application process and job.

If you have any interest in transcribing from home, make sure to check out the course at TranscribeAnywhere. 1. I do Rev. My first pay was $13, for a 26 min audio. I think that’s pretty good for an absolute beginner like me. Just follow their transcribing rules, and you might do well. Currently with Rev, i earn about 40 to 100 a week, depending on how lazy i am. If i pushed myself a little more, i believe i could earn more. I also have two other jobs, so…….yea.

O, and it is a site where you have to climb the ladder, meaning the better your work, the better your pay is, and the more projects you get. They get claimed pretty fast too.

  2. Hey, Brok.
Thanks for the review. I’m looking to work with 1-888-type it up, cause of how well they say they pay, of course, but I just want to know, cause there’s a lot of talk about them being a scam, is this really true? But how have they kept it up this long, they’ve been operating since about 2017? One thing I find fishy is the mysterious way that they operate, and the fact that they don’t boast of any major companies that use their services, which should even back up how they’re able to pay so well. They have to have top clients like other companies that don’t even pay half as much as they do. I’m worried, any reassurances?

    • Fadila,

Based on comments that I’m getting in over the last few months this might not be the best option, especially if you’re not an experienced transcriber.

  3. March 2020 update: The Entrance Exam fee is now $59. Submitted and denied in less than an hour. The “mistakes” made were not mentioned in their instructions, mostly formatting mistakes. I can “reapply” and take the exact same test over again if I give them another $59. There is no credible information from current or former IC’s about this job anywhere online. BBB also has poor reviews. Questionable company that is not registered with New York State, but may have offshore ties. Whey did they raise the fees to $59 suddenly during an economic crisis when everyone is looking for a job and working from home? They also offer more “expedited” grading for a higher fee. Save your money for food and rent and look for a different company.

  4. I can’t find anyone who actually works for this company. It’s not acknowledged by Indeed or Glassdoor. It’s not BBB accredited. I read a recent comment on Reddit that said the phone number is invalid. It looks good, but that’s probably it.
    I’d stay away.

  5. I just paid $ 39.00 for the exam. If you do not pass than you can pay again and take the same exam again. They will tell you what you got wrong and email you the same exam. 1888 type it 0 will hopefully be ok but I am still looking for another job.

  6. This company charges an application fee of $10 and then a minimum of $39 (up to $99) to receive the exam results. Absolutely not okay! Hard. Pass.

    • Thank you for letting me know Sarah. I’ll update the review. I’m sure it’s put in place to avoid unqualified people for applying, but even if you’re qualified it’s a deterrent

  7. Complete scam. Charge 10 bucks for a test, told a month later I passed. Was assigned 1 audio of 6 minutes and never anything else, they stopped responding to my Skype. I’m not the only one, do some research. I believe this company is taking advantage of applicants, taking their money and then telling them they “Failed” The first job. I got an F grade. I am a professional transcriptionist with over 5 years of experience…. it’s impossible.

Do not work for them, you;ll lose your time and 10 bucks. See any employee reviews anywhere? There are none.

    Save your time.

  8. Brok, 1-888-TYPEITUP now charges a $15 application fee. They say this is to cover the costs of hiring someone to review/sort applications.

    Interesting.

Just FYI, because I noticed someone else commented about six months ago that they charged a $10 application fee.

    Everything goes up.

    Thanks.

  9. Hi Brok,
I got your website from a gal on one of the full-time RV pages. She does transcription for Rev.com & I see it’s on your list, but there’s no review 🙁 She spoke well of the company & had no complaints, but I didn’t know if you had a review as well. I read each of the “no experience” companies 1 by 1 & took notes. I plan on doing this type of work as we travel full time. It’ll be my fun money. I did transcription many years ago so it’s not totally new. I’m also taking the free 7 day course you have listed. Thanks for putting all this information together. It’s hard to know which is legit & which is a scam.

    Debra
