MyCrowd QA Review: Website Usability Testing Scam

Learn How You Can Earn Up TO $15 For Finding Bugs On Websites & Apps At MyCrowd QA!
MyCrowd QA is one of the leading usability testing sites around. I’ve reviewed a lot of these sites in the past, and it seems that this one differs from the rest quite a bit.

One unique thing about MyCrowd is they treat it more as a game than working and providing feedback. They go with the theme of a a scavenger hunt, where you’re testing websites and apps to find bugs.

MyCrowd QA does feature a different pay scale than the rest of the industry, so make sure to pay close attention to that portion of the review.

Well, that’s enough general information let’s jump into the real meat of this MyCrowd QA Review.

How Does MyCrowd QA Work?

mycrowd qa reviewAs mentioned above, MyCrowd is a bit different than most usability testing sites. Instead of a series of tasks to be completed, you’ll be looking for bugs within websites and apps.

Also instead of getting paid a flat rate, usually $10 per test, you’ll only get paid if you’re the first person to find a bug within an app.

Once your accepted you can login at anytime and see the available tests. They do show you how many bugs are in the app and how many have been found. You can take a test at any time and begin to look for bugs.

To give you an idea, you’ll want to navigate the app or website and look for any errors. To really find the bugs you’ll need to use every function of the app or website. Bugs are going to be different in every test so there really isn’t an exact definition of what you’ll be doing other then navigating the app looking for bugs!

MyCrowd Requirements And Application Process

There doesn’t seem to be many requirements for MyCrowd. Looks like this is open World Wide, of course fluent in English is a must. You will need either a desktop computer or smartphone. There seems to be tests on both, but to complete tests you only need one.

The application is super simple, just fill out a form with basic personal and demographic information. From what I can see there is no sample test to get accepted.

How Much Does MyCrowd QA Pay?

This is a tricky question, there really isn’t an exact answer to this question. If you remember I said that you only get paid when you’re the first one to find a bug within an app or website. It seems that if you’re the first one to find a bug you’ll be paid $2-$15+, depending on the size of the bug.

Honestly, it’s pretty vague on how much you’ll be getting paid, but this is the feedback I’ve found in forums.

It looks like they pay by PayPal and funds are cleared after you’re bug has been submitted and approved!

How Much Can You Expect To Make?

With MyCrowd it seems that they usually have 1 or 2 tests available at a time, with a few that have been paused. Really the pay is pretty good if you find a bug, but you only get paid if you’re the first one to find the bug. For this reason, I don’t think the income potential is very high for most normal people like me.

To make money you’ll need to be one of the first people to take the test and most of the bigger bugs can’t be found by people without some sort of skills in app and website building.

My honest opinion is that MyCrowd is the worst of the 11 usability test sites to join, just because most people are going to have a hard time being the first one to find a bug, which is the only way you’ll get paid.

Is MyCrowd QA A Scam?

MyCrowd is not a scam. I like that they made the site into what feels like a game, but I’m not a huge fan of the way you get paid. With most usability testing sites your paid $10 for your time and opinion, with MyCrowd there really isn’t any guaranteed money for taking a test.

For this reason, I have to say MyCrowd is my least favorite of the 11 usability testing sites that are scam free. I’m not saying you can’t make money with this site, but I feel like it’s going to be much harder than the other sites that guarantee you payment for your time.

Despite my opinion, if your an app builder and have some skills in this field this might be perfect for you. You may be able to find bugs others can’t which can lead to big payouts.

No matter what your situation is, if you’d like to learn more or to join visit MyCrowd QA tester.

Whether you choose MyCrowd or another usability testing site all it’s going to be is extra income to see some other sites to combine with this site visit scam free extra income sites.

  1. HI there

I was looking for ways to make money online and I came across your ad. I have never heard of usability testing, so this was an interesting one for me.

Its quite an odd way to earn money, as you say, to get paid sometimes but not other times seems like it would be really frustrating. You could potentially end up doing lots of work and getting nothing.

Thanks for the insights, it would have taken me a long time to work this out without having read your article.

    • Hey Ruth thanks for taking a look at my MyCrowd QA Review. This really isn’t like most other usability testing sites that I recommend, take a look at this list of 11 usability testing jobs.

Some of the sites on there pay you every time you do a test and it won’t be searching for errors and only getting paid if you’re the first one to find it.

      Hope this helps,

  2. Hi Brook, I stumbled to your web when seahcing how to get additional bucks each month and this is actually make me interested. I’ve heard about earning a few bucks with listening to music and now with usability testing.

MyCrowd QA seems a bit hard to work based on your review. You didn’t even get a buck just to be a second to ffind the same bug? Also, is this site offer a referral program too?

    Thanks Brook 🙂

    • Hey Alblue thanks for reading my review. Yeah it kind of sucks you won’t always earn cash for finding bugs. That’s probably my biggest complaint with this site.

To my knowledge they do not offer a referral program, but I’m not 100% sure on that.

But check out this list of usability testing jobs. There’s a few companies I recommend over MyCrowd.

    • Hey Ben thanks for leaving a comment.

Glad to see you enjoyed my review and as you mentioned this kind of work isn’t for everyone. Some people don’t feel like it’s worth making a few extra bucks a month and others just aren’t comfortable being recorded, which most usability sites require.

Either way I have a lot of other ways to make extra money online here, if Usability isn’t what you’re looking for.

      Hope this helps
