DigiTyping Transcription Job Review: Is It A Scam?

Learn how you can work at home in the UK transcribing for DigiTyping. All transcribers make at least £7.50 an hour but most make over £10!Today I’d like to cover a work at home transcription job available in the UK at DigiTyping. Let me begin by saying this opportunity is only available in the UK at this time. I spoke with a company employee, and they let me know that they’ll be expanding to several other countries over the next few years.

If you’re not located in the UK, check out this long list of other transcription jobs.

From what I can tell this is not really a site for beginners. They have several requirements that make it seem like it’s a place for experienced transcribers that do it as a business or at least a side business.

In this review, I’ll cover the requirements, the application process, the pay, and some feedback from other transcribers.

If you have any interest in transcribing from home, make sure to check out the course at TranscribeAnywhere. The course will teach you how to transcribe and how to find high-paying transcription jobs. You can also sign up for their Free 7-day course just to make sure Transcription is right for you!

If you have any questions or experience with DigiTyping, please leave comments below!

DigiTyping Requirements

As mentioned in the introduction, this does not seem like a site for beginning transcribers. They have several requirements including being registered as self-employed. I’ve listed the requirements from their website below:

  • Must be registered as self-employed and agree to report your earnings for tax and insurance purposes.
  • Must have a computer, does not matter if it’s desktop/laptop or PC/Mac.
  • Must have broadband internet access
  • Recommend having Grammarly
  • Must sign a Transcriptionist agreement with the company
  • Must be over 18 years of age
  • Must have an excellent understanding of British English
  • Must be able to type accurately at 45 WPM
  • Must have headphones and a transcription software installed. They recommend Express Scribe which you can get in a bundle on Amazon here.

If you meet all of the requirements, you can start the application process on their website here.

DigiTyping Application Process

The application process begins by filling out a short form on their website. It includes questions just confirming you meet the requirements, general information including name and contact information, and a short grammar test that is incredibly easy. If it’s always the same questions, it’s very simple to find the best answer because most of the options don’t make any sense.

Once you submit your application, you’ll hear back within two weeks. If you score over 80% on the grammar test, you’ll be invited to take a transcription test. The transcription test is 5 minutes of audio. Once you submit the test, they’ll get back with you shortly on your results.

If all goes well, the next step is to sign a transcription agreement. I’ve been told this is just to give clients the peace of mind about security and data breach.

Once you sign the agreement, you can begin to pick up work as it’s available.

DigiTyping Pay

To work for DigiTyping, you’re required to at least type 45 WPM. The way pay works is they set the rate of an audio file to equal the UK minimum wage of £7.50 if you type at 45 WPM. So as long as you type at the minimum requirement, you’ll earn around £7.50 an hour.

Which means if you can average over 45 WPM your hourly wage would increase. For example, 60 WPM would make you around £10 an hour.

They also mention that some files have higher pay based on difficulty or quick turn around times.

Payments are made via PayPal monthly around the 15th of the month.

Working For DigiTyping

Once you’re accepted, you’ll get login details for their list of available work. When work is available, you can claim the file and transcribe it in your own transcription software. Of course, before claiming a file, you can see all the instruction and details.

When you’re done, you upload the file on the same site, and it’s checked by quality control before it’s sent to the client.

DigiTyping Schedule

The schedule at DigiTyping is extremely flexible. You can work as much or little as you want and you can pick up files at any time, as long as there are files available.

I did see somewhere on the site that if you don’t transcribe any files for three months, you might be removed from the system. With that being said, as long as you transcribe a few files a month you’ll still have access to all the work available.

Is DigiTyping A Scam?

Transcribing for DigiTyping is not a scam, it’s a legitimate transcription site available in the UK, and the pay seems to be very fair. Again, this might not be the best site for complete beginners since there are some legal requirements and a small investment to get the required equipment, but it’s a good transcription site if you can get accepted.

  1. I went through the application process for DigiTyping and was over the moon when I passed and was accepted to be a transcriber for them. I can confirm this is not a scam but I have only been offered one file to transcribe in 2 months. I have emailed a number of times to ask if and when more jobs will be available but they just keep telling me they hope to have more work available soon. I was hoping to have a steady flow of work every week but there are no jobs on ScribeManager to claim. I have now applied to work with other transcription companies who I hope will have more work available.

    • Thank you for sharing your experience, Caroline! Glad you got accepted, but hopefully work picks up. Have they mentioned that they are busier at certain times of the year?
