My Scribie Review

Website: Scribie.com

Price: Free To Join

Verdict: Legit Scam Free

In this Scribie Review, I gave them a good score and marked them legit. There aren’t many problems with Scribie. They give you a very flexible work from home schedule, pay pretty well, and offers a unique way to earn money online.

As long as you can get accepted and meet all requirements, I think you will be pretty happy with this company.

How Does Scribie Work?

The Scribie Process is pretty simple once you get accepted. You have the ability to work as much or little as you want. There are no requirements to how much you must work.

You will log in see what audio files are available and have the ability to preview the audio files. All files are under 6 minutes long and are usually speeches, phone calls, and interviews.

You can pick any audio file that you want and will be paid based on how long the audio file is. Transcribing is an easy 3 step process where you will transcribe, review, and then submit.

Scribie Requirements

The requirements for Scribie are pretty simple. You will need to be fluent in English and be able to type at a pretty fast speed.

For payments, you will need a verified PayPal account.

To work, you will need a computer with high-speed internet access, a good quality headset, a foot pedal, the latest version of Adobe Flash Player, and either Chrome, FireFox, or Safari Browsers.

Scribie Application Process

The application process is pretty simple, and the good thing is Scribie does hire people with very little experience.

You can apply on their website, if they are interested they will contact you with information about the application test. You will need to pass this test before being hired. They do allow you to retake the test 10 times if you fail to pass.

From what I’ve heard if you pass they will pay you for your time and if you fail they are very helpful and return the test with suggestions and markups on how you can improve!

Once you pass, you’re hired and can start working immediately.

How Much Does Scribie Pay?

Scribie will pay you $10 per audio hour. This doesn’t mean $10 per hour of your work, but $10 per 1 hour of audio files you transcribe. So a 6-minute file pays $1.

When you start, it may take you 20-30 minutes to transcribe a file if you’ve never done it before, but as you do it more you can probably get this down to 10-15 minutes for a 6-minute file.

Payments are made by PayPal and once you earn $1 you can request a cashout. Payments will be in your PayPal account within 24 hours!

Scribie also offers a few bonuses based on performances I cover this more in the next section, but if you complete 3 hours of audio files in one month, you get a $10 bonus.

Scribie Grading and Promotions

Scribie will give you a performance grade on all the transcriptions that you submit. They also offer promotions based on your performance.

From what I see the first promotion is to reviewer status. This means you can earn money for transcribing and also reviewing and approving other people’s submitted transcriptions.

If you perform well, the next promotion is self-reviewer, which means you can now submit transcriptions, review others transcriptions, and now review your own transcription submissions.

You’re paid the same rate at $1 per 6 minutes of audio.

Scribie Concerns & Complaints

Pay Rate

Scribie pays $10 per hour of audio file transcribed. This is honestly a low rate, but it’s all going to depend on how well you can transcribe.

For your first few it may take a while to get a 6-minute audio file complete, but as you progress and it takes you just a few minutes you can get paid a decent rate per hour of actual work.

It’s a difficult skill

I’ve dabbled a bit in transcription when putting out YouTube videos. Honestly, it’s a pretty hard skill to perfect. Of course, some audio files are harder than others, but for fast-talking up pace files, it’s hard to listen and type at the same pace as the audio file.

Not to say it’s impossible to get really good, but it’s going to take some practice.

Is Scribie A Scam or Legit?

Scribie is a completely legit site that pays you to transcribe audio files. I liked that you get paid by PayPal and can cash out with just $1 in your account.

There were some concerns I had like the pay rate, but that is going to depend on how good you’re at transcribing.

With that being said I think Transcribing and Scribie are great options for working from home and making an online income.

  1. Scribie is a scam. Yeah, they will pay you a little money, but they also have many little scams going of how to NOT pay you. For instance, after you put in a great deal of time on an assignment they will reject it so they won’t have to pay you, but they keep your work. They don’t like people to dispute their grades so they will reject your work after they have already paid you for it and take away your money. You can actually go negative. Meaning you won’t get paid for your work and you will have to work more to get out of your negative status. Say they reject a file, they take away $1.40 that you had already earned. You now have to not only work to make money, you have to work to just get out of the negative so you can make money again. Scribie has their employees in California go online to give them good reviews as a transcription company and as a freelance employer. Don’t believe all the reviews about them. The bad reviews are more accurate. I had to find it out the hard way. Scribie is an online sweatshop that needs to brought down.

  2. Scribie may not be a scam in the steal your money sense of the word, but they steal your time. Most people are paid $50 to $60 per audio hour starting, not $10! That is a complete ripoff, and no one should settle for those wages. If you want to transcribe for that amount, you might as well donate your time. If it takes you 15 minutes to do a 6-minute file, you are making $4.00 an hour. That’s without taking taxes out, which you are legally obligated to do as an independent contractor. Please seek work at a company that will appreciate you and pays industry standard wages.

    • Thanks for sharing Jessica.

You’re right that the rate might not be the best, but you’ll see this type of rate with most sites that accept people without experience. Scribie is a good option for someone who’s never transcribed before.

If you have experience and have held a transcription job before, scribie might not be the best option for you.

I appreciate your input, it will help my readers put the rate into prospective!
