Overall Door Dash seems to be a pretty unique way to make a living. Here is how it works. Once you’re accepted you will be able to sign up for different shifts, for example from 11 am-2:30 pm. During this time you will hang out by some partnered restaurants and wait for orders to come in.

What Are the Requirements For Door Dash?

There are quite a few requirements for Door Dash, but shouldn’t be that hard to meet them. First off you need transportation, a bike or car is required. If you have a vehicle you will need to show proof of insurance, along with a valid drivers license and a clean driving record.

They will perform a background check so no criminal history either. You must be 18 years or older.

The only other requirement is either an Apple or Android smartphone to use the app.

The application process is pretty simple. First, you will need to apply on their website. If interested you will need to set up a phone interview. If that goes well the background check will be performed. After you will then attend an in person interview where you will also be trained.

If all goes well you are free to start working whenever you are ready.

How Much Does Door Dash Pay?

On their website, they are claiming that some drivers make up to $20 per hour. Honestly, this is probably not the average and I’d say every hour is different. But you will be paid $5 per order that you deliver plus and tips that you receive.

In the instance that you do not make $10 in an hour Door Dash will pay you the difference from what you made. So you are guaranteed to make at least $10 an hour for your time. UPDATE: Fred, an actual Door Dash Driver left this comment “I am a driver and this is incorrect. In order to get the $10 an hour guarantee, you must make at least one delivery and must accept a minimum of 90% of deliveries assigned to you overall. If you don’t complete any orders you get nada, zip, zero”

Seems like they pay by PayPal or Direct Deposit every week on Tuesday for your previous week’s earnings!

It seems that most drivers are very satisfied with the work, but there are a few things that concern me and some workers.

Safety Dealing With People

With this job, you will be delivering food to real people, which means going to their house and interacting with them. When doing this there is always a concern with safety. They do require customers to under go a background check as well, so most likely you will never have any problems. But should be something that you think about before joining.

Gas Expense

If you decided to drive a vehicle you will have to pay for your own gas. It is actually a tax deduction, but still, it can really cut into your bottom line and pay so you need to make sure to take that into account if you’re going to drive.

Most deliveries will be nearby, but some can get far away and require you to use more gas. There really isn’t a way around this, you need to complete all the orders that come in.

Door Dash seems to be a completely legit way to earn some extra money or a full-time job. It does allow for a pretty flexible schedule where you choose when you work and I really liked that they guarantee you $10 an hour even if you don’t complete any orders.
