The Content Authority was founded in 2009, with the mission to offer businesses and entrepreneurs relevant content to add value to their websites. In this review, I will look at the work-at-home opportunity they offer.

The Content Authority Requirements
If you are interested in writing for The Content Authority, here are the requirements you’ll need to meet:
- Able to read and comprehend English
- Ability to write formal articles using proper English grammar at a high school level
- Able to research a variety of topics, based on the needs of the client
- You must be willing and able to follow instructions from both clients and The Content Authority
- Capable of meeting deadlines set by your clients
- Able to receive payment via PayPal
- Willing to accept critiques about your work from your clients and also from The Content Authority
- Must fill out a 1099 form for The Content Authority
The Content Authority Application Process
Click here if you want to apply to be a freelance writer for The Content Authority. They want your personal information: name, email, address, and phone number. Then they want you to write a unique writing sample that is a minimum of 150 words. At the time I am writing this review, I am asked to write using the title: Best Pets for Senior Citizens. Last, I need to click a box to accept the Terms and Conditions and submit the application.
While still in the middle of writing this review, I decided I was actually going to submit my application to see what happens next. I just went to do that, and the 150+ word article title changed to, “Which Laptop is Best for College Students?” I think I’ll check back later. If you decide to check out this opportunity, I would go ahead and complete the application if you like the sample title!
I just refreshed the application page and got, “Remodeling a Bathroom on the Cheap.”
How Much Does The Content Authority Pay?
The value of each article is based on the number of words the client requests, the article type, and the level of quality listed for the article. The value is shown under the compensation tab when viewing the order list.
Pay is also based on the tier level of the article. But the article tier is not the same as your tier as a writer. For example, you won’t get paid more writing a tier 1 article if you are a tier 3 writer. These tiers are independent of each other.
According to a review on Indeed, they pay around $5 for 600 words.
If you feel like you are ready for a pay rate increase, you can ask for a tier increase. The best thing you can do is to always submit your best work, regardless of the tier level or compensation rate for the job. Your hourly rate will depend on your skill level and the orders that are available.
The Content Authority hires writers as independent contractors. It will be your responsibility to report your earnings and pay income taxes on your earnings.
When Does The Content Authority Pay?
The Content Authority makes payments every Monday by 8:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. You’ll be paid on all articles that have been approved and received into the system by 12:01 AM on that same day.
The minimum payment that will be sent is $25. If your balance is less than that, it will be sent to you on the next payday when you have met the $25 minimum.
All payments are made through PayPal. You will only be paid for approved and accepted articles. You will not be paid on rejected articles.
The Content Authority Schedule
There is no limit to the number of articles you can write for The Content Authority unless you are on probation. Everyone starts in a probationary period. Otherwise, you are encouraged to write as much as you want, as long as you can follow the instructions and quality requirements of the orders you accept.
You have a minimum of 8 hours to write each article. The total time you are given depends on the word count that is requested by the client.
If a client requests a revision, you will have 24 hours to revise. If you feel the revision request is outside of the scope of the order, you can dispute it. If the dispute is not found in your favor, you must complete the revision, or you will forfeit the work you have done.
Orders are approved within several hours of completion.
The Content Authority Term and Conditions
When you write for The Content Authority, everything you write will become the property of your clients. You will give up all rights to everything you have written for them. This is something you agree to when you apply to write for The Content Authority.
The Content Authority Feedback
I found some reviews for The Content Authority on Indeed. Here are the pros and cons that I found:
Pros:
- Very flexible schedule; can take a break at any time and return with no problem
- They are reliable at making payments every week
Cons:
- Very low pay
- Sometimes there is not enough work
- The editors are extremely critical, in order to move you down to a lower paying tier
- One review said this is an SEO content mill; it’s like working in a sweatshop
Writing for The Content Authority a Scam?
Based on my research, The Content Authority is NOT a scam. It might not be the best paying gig out there, but it doesn’t seem too difficult to get into.
